Bragar School Memories Exhibition
The exhibition consisted of school photographs from the early 1920s until the school closed in 2012. Extracts from the log books, press cuttings and other items to do with Bragar School were collected in folders. Tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes were served. A grant was received from Tasglann nan Eilean Siar, with funding support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig. The exhibition was also supported by Comann Eachdraidh an Taobh Siar.
Before the exhibition, a coffee evening and a coffee afternoon were held, when people were invited to come with photographs which were scanned and returned to them. In addition to this, committee members and others spent many hours naming the pupils in all the photographs. Most pupils were named in the exhibition, and a volunteer typed out all the names in a standard format. Committee members also spent hours preparing wall mounted exhibition boards in two rooms in the school, and in one corridor, in order to hang the exhibition.
The exhition opened in the afternoon and evening of Monday 23 December. Our last day, on Saturday 4 January, was very busy and extended for an hour. All age groups attended the exhibition and were very appreciative. A highlight was being able to meet and spend time with old friends, some of whom had not met since their school days. Many people left generous donations and offered to volunteer for other events.
